Chiropractic & Applied Kinesiology

Chiropractic & Applied Kinesiology

Chiropractic is a system of health care that recognizes the body’s innate healing capacity and that compromised health is due to interference to the body’s organizing and communication systems (the brain, spinal cord, and nerves). These interferences can be physical (trauma, poor posture, degeneration), chemical (nutritional deficiencies, toxicity, intolerances and allergies) and emotional (acute or chronic stress and unresolved “stuck” emotional patterns).

George J. Goodheart, a chiropractor, originated applied kinesiology in 1964 and began teaching it to other chiropractors. Professional Applied Kinesiology is a post-graduate chiropractic technique that specializes in using muscle testing as a biofeedback tool to help determine the primary pattern of interference i.e. is the primary cause a physical, chemical or emotional problem. Our practitioners that use applied kinesiology are certified by The International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK).

The combination of chiropractic and Applied Kinesiology is a powerful approach to holistic health care that deals with the underlying cause of pain or ill health and not just the symptoms. Because we are working with the nervous system, change occurs almost immediately and is very effective for treating pain, headaches, back pain, neuropathy (nerve damage), joint pain and digestive disorders.

It is also an effective way to keep your body in balance to prevent injuries, unnecessary wear and tear, improve coordination and balance and enhance general wellbeing and performance levels.

Applied Kinesiology can also be used as a powerful tool for identifying intolerances and sensitivities to foods and environmental substances. Our practitioners in Sydney’s Northern Beaches will test the body’s reaction to different foods by placing the food item (or a homeopathic version of that food) over the body on a particular acupuncture point and then testing muscles. If the muscle reacts weakly an intolerance to that food is likely; if the muscle reacts strongly, the body probably not stressed by that food or substance. This can be fantastic if you suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, as it may help you to identify some of the triggers for you.

Other issues that may benefit from kinesiology are:

  • Anxiety
  • Headaches
  • Learning difficulties
  • Low energy
  • Skin conditions
  • Stress

The treatment has been known to have a powerful effect on a person’s emotional state as well. Stored emotional energy can be exhausting to manage and often makes us feel overwhelmed. When you feel overwhelmed you tend to procrastinate and you are less effective at addressing life’s challenges. This can be a vicious cycle that that can create a lot of other health issues due to how we attempt to manage this stress (i.e. self-medicating with food, cigarettes, alcohol or medication). Kinesiology can help us identify why we are responding in such a stressed way and help us release all the negative energy that can build up in the system which often presents as insomnia, jaw clenching, muscle tension and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
